A little check in just so you know we’re still alive.

(Riceville – Cedar Falls, Iowa – check out the Maps page to follow our progress or Diana’s Strava feed for more on our route – though I don’t necessarily advise following it exactly – more on that tomorrow . . .)

We are. Barely. Or, at least, I’m barely still alive.

Diana? Of course she’s fine. She just swam across the lake and back . . . after our 75 mile into-the-wind-all-the-way-and-partially-on-gravel ride.

I have lots to talk about: apples, or the lack thereof; Iowa roads – and their pavement, or the lack thereof; amenities, or the lack thereof; our long overdue salmon meal; Kwik Trip – or, in Iowan – Kwik Star; Super Man and Star Trek; more on teddy bears and rainbows; and the best corn ever.

But all that will have to wait until tomorrow. This old man is too tired for a real blog tonight.

Until tomorrow.

John

BTW I clicked on the maps link and I only see outlines of your previous trips-not sure if it’s tracking your current progress.

It looks like there could be a delay between map updates. I had the same issue yesterday, but today it showed up and is current. I noticed John makes a mention of this at the top of the Map page.

Glad you made it to Cedar Falls… Hometown of the famous collegiate wrestler, Dan Gable, whose record from high school through college was 181-1, losing his final match in his senior year at Iowa State. He sucked it up to in 1972 to win a gold medal without giving up a point in those Olympic matches..

His later reflection on that disappointing loss:

“Losing made me a better wrestler.”

Maybe I’ll be a better biker after having the wind beat me these last days . . .

Exactly. It would be like a Steven King novel with evil government agents trying to capture her to run tests.
